ICBC FAQ for Acupuncture

Do I need a doctor's referal to start?

You don't need a doctor's referral, but you do need an ICBC claim number. â€‹

Are there any fees for my ICBC-related sessions?

No, you should not have to pay user fees for most standard ICBC-related acupuncture sessions, as these are typically covered 100% by ICBC during the first 12 weeks after a motor vehicle accident.

Can I extend my treatment if I need more sessions?

For treatments needed beyond the initial 12 sessions or 12 weeks, your practitioner can request an extension from your ICBC adjuster, which is approved on a case-by-case basis. The treatments are free to you, as the clinic bills ICBC directly.

Is acupuncture good after car accident?

In the context of car accident injuries, acupuncture can target areas of pain and discomfort, such as the back, neck, and joints. By stimulating the body's natural healing mechanisms, acupuncture can help reduce inflammation, alleviate pain, and improve mobility.

Can I drive home after acupuncture treatment?

Typically you can drive after a acupuncture session. However, acupuncture has a calming effect, so you may want to get a ride home from your appointments — especially the first one. If that's not possible, try to rest for five to 10 minutes before you drive. Your practitioner may suggest that you take it easy for a day or two after each session.

Is dry-needling same as acupuncture?

No, dry needling is a specific technique that we may use as part of your acupuncture treatment. While both use the same type of needle, they are based on different philosophies.

Acupuncture is a comprehensive system of medicine focused on balancing the body’s energy pathways. Dry needling is a modern, Western-based technique used specifically to release muscular knots and address trigger points that cause pain.

At Reversepain, we utilize dry needling as a highly effective part of your treatment plan when we need to address stubborn muscular pain and injuries.
